| Satellite Compact Fluorescent Fixtures Pros
Economical. Only $71.39 at Drs. Fosters and Smith for the 30" model.
Powerful. 65 watts in a 24" bulb. Uses Smartpaq bulbs.
Built in lunar lighting.
Can be placed directly on the glass top or comes with optional mounts for lifting the fixture higher above the aquarium.
Feels sturdy and appears to be manufactured of high quality materials. Has a nice slide off cover over the bulb.
Quick and easy to install. Just remove the packing around the bulb, decide the way you want it mounted, plug it in and you're done!
Cons
Cooling fan is very loud and exits on the side of the fixture. If you have a canopy, the fan location will prevent the use of a canopy.
The lamp is 24" long and located at the end of the 30" fixture causing the light to be brighter at one end of the 29 gallon aquarium than the other. If I had known this, I would have just bought the 24" fixture and centered it on the aquarium.
The fixture came with the 10000k/Actinic bulb. Great for saltwater applications but not the greatest for a planted aquarium. I will be replacing the bulb soon.
You can only operate the main lighting and lunar lighting separately with timers. The main switch turns both of them either on or off.
Overall I would rate it 7 out of 10. If it takes my planted aquarium to the next level as I hope it will, I think I can overlook the noise. |
