Tek Light?T5 HO

I'm trying to find appropriate lighting for a 75 gal., 25" deep fw planted tank.

Does anyone have any experience with the Tek Light T5 HO aquarium light system? I've compared with Sundial, Coralife, and others.

I'm pretty interested in the Tek Light from Sunlight Supplies. From what I've read, it seem to be well designed and constructed from high quality components. In particular, it has programmed start ballast as opposed to instant start ballast. Other features I like as well.

BUT, everything I read about the T5 HO lights (and bulbs) seem to suggest that they are for reef tanks. It is a 156 watt system with a variety of options on bulbs.

Is this a good solution or serious overkill?

Re: Tek Light?T5 HO

Tek lights are excellent lights, go with the smaller bulb option though, make sure it has only 4 bulbs instead of 6 or 8. Anything more than 4 will be overkill. You can also get the bulbs in 6700K which is perfect for plant growth.
You can always get a Current satellite which will be a little cheaper and have 4 t-5 plus moonlights.

Re: Tek Light?T5 HO

Everything I google about "Current Satellite" aquarium lights comes up with Compact flourescent lamps. I didn't see any with T-5s. Something I read, said that the Compact flourescent lamps get hotter and could require a chiller. The T-5s are suppose to be cooler.

Re: Disappearing replies?

The satelite doesn't run hot at all, I had one on my old 55 salty. It isn't powerful enough to effect the temperature IME.

The satellite doesn't run hot at all, I had one on my 55g salt and had no issues. I don't think it has enough wattage to cause any issues.

Sorry hlsarge, I meant the current Nova Extreme, my mistake. Here are the stats on it. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_Aquari..._ho_lunar.html
