| Canister Filtration I currently have a 125g tank and am using a Magnum 350 cansiter filter as my mechanical filtration. I also have a pengium hang on filter for chemical filtration as well as a protein skimmer running as well. It seems like the magnum filter cloggs up every week or so with debris, etc. I ran one of these filters for a year or so previously and never had a problem with the paper filter clogging. I am starting to wonder if I have enough of the other forms of filtration and whether maybe I am over feeding, etc. Anyone eles had problems with the Magnum 350 paper filters getting glogged?
Thanks! |

| The paper filters are only to be used for polishing the water, you need to use the media container with the foam sleeve. Fill the media container with ceramic media, this will keep you from having to clean it every week, but it still should be cleaned once a month, if not every 2 weeks. Dont rinse the ceramic media in tap water it will kill the good bacteria in the media, rinse it out in a bucket of tank water, this way you are getting rid of the gunk and debris, but not the beneficial bacteria. By the way.....Welcome to the forum! |

| Yeah they will do that...How often do you clean your tank ? and how many fish do you have ?
these filters are known for clogging but work good if you keep them clean you may have to replace the clogged medium every week or so ( not so bad means it's doing its job right ) |

| 1 Yellow Tang
2 Percula Clowns
1 lawnmower Blenny
1 goby
I usually do a water change and clean once every 1 to 1.5 weeks, I have my own RO unit so that def. makes it much more easy to do H20 changes, etc.
I have a few of the paper cartridges that I just clean and switch in and out as I need to so its really not a problem, but I may considered going to the media cartridge.
Thanks for the advice! |

| Does anyone know of any good places to buy a sump from for my 125g tank or have any suggestions on a good one to get? It is not pre-drilled for a sump. Not even really sure that I need one, but I would like to get rid of a lot of the stuff (heaters, etc.) hanging on the back of my tank and put them down below in the sump.
Thanks |

| You can use a cpr overflow on your tank with a custom made sump, they are easy to make all you have to do is buy the aquarium, get pieces of glass gut and silicone the glass pieces into the tank. I will be making a new one in the next week or so and will post a diy on it. The Cpr overflow is a little on the high side, but is the best way to go without drilling the tank. |
