In the last week, I added an Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel filter (I also currently have my Fluval 304 running for transition time). I decided to change filters because one of my Oscars started getting HITH, and that was the first recommendation on fixing it.

The Bio-Wheel is making a loud, grinding noise, and is also squeaking. A local Pet store told me to clean it out, because it's probably an object making the noise. I cleaned it, didn't find anything, set it up again, and it's still making the noise.

Any ideas? I'm ready to throw this thing out!

Sounds like one of the blue pin holders might have a crack or something stuck in it, take both wheels off and inspect the rods on both ends and the blue pin holders for debris or cracks. I have not been happy with the quality of Marineland products this past 2 yrs.

sounds stupid, but did you fill the filter with water. i didnt the first time i set it up and did what ur describing. then i realized i was dumb and filled the filter w/ water.

When you take the wheel out does the filter still make the grinding noise?
