i'll do ya one better....aquasafe only!
That is exactly what I use and have used for quite a long time now....in fact, I can't remember the last time I added anything else to any of my FW tanks, including.....

Well some fish do better with aquarium salt, like my mollies and African cichlids.
....salt (NaCl) because, and no offense to anyone, that "do better" advice is really a half truth which doesn't consider the fact that "salt" can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people and in this case more importantly, to a lot of different fish. That whole molly thing is really blown way way way out of proportion and out of the realm of true understanding 9 times out of 10 so IMHO, no one needs to run to the salt shaker on the table if you have a few of them (which is probably a topic better suited for another time and place).

Trojannemo....

I just wanted to say "kudos!" for coming so far in such a short time since you joined FTF! I definitely see a lot of very cool aquatic ventures in your future if you stick to what you are doing and where you are going (...of course, IMHO anyways).

Re: is my idea of no-chemicals good?

Great thread. I hope more peopple embrace the loss of chemicals. IMO far too many people want to turn thew aquarium tank into a giant chemistry set and have little to no idea of what the trade offs are. Some of the products can be good and some are neutral but many are really detrimental if mis-used even slightly. A conditioner is nice to take tap water directly to the tank but if you can leave it open for 24 hours before adding I do not think it is even needed. Stess coat can be a good product and I use it but I have also seen people use it in a negative manner casuing the fish real problems and even death if it clogs the gills.

The salt thing is new to me, but from what I've experiences this time around (since I set up my 55 gallon tank) it hasn't caused problems, and has cured my ich that was in the tank.

You do seem to have come along ways also.
