Good Call RustyNut! Someone else was talking about having a brackish tank with a little NaCl in it.

Why are you adding that much salt to a FW tank?

The algae on the gravel can be "plowed under" so to speak. Just use a plastic credit card or spoon to turn the gravel over and bury the algae. No light/dead algae.
