Hello all, New here. I have some questions regarding our 20 gallon tank. we have had a variety of troubles with the tank since we moved. our PH is low at 6.0 i am concerned and have bought the PH up stuff but it doesnt seem to work. i added some baking soda tonight in the hopes they live! i just love all the critters in there and dont want to loose any. one of the small ones i dont think will make it through the night... i guess i dont know if we put too much stuff in or not enough? what are we doing wrong? i checked the ph of our tap water and it is 6.0 we changed the tank water this weekend and the water just looked off..cloudy. then it was ok and now the ph is off...any ideas or suggestions would help.
did we not change the tank right? should we use filtered water? what should i do?

Im no expert but ive read that fighting ph in freshwater is a losing battle its just not worth it, as most FW fish are fairly adaptive as lnog as you acculmulate them properly they will live just fine in a low PH.

Hey Tetra77 Welcome to our Forum!

I am assuming the tank has been up for a while and is fully cycled.

While E46er is giving you good advice on not chasing your tail with pH altering chemicals 6.0 is a little low and I can understand your concern.
It would help if you could post your GH and KH.

The baking soda will raise the buffering capacity of the water (KH) and act raise the pH a bit but IMO I think you need to look at both GH and KH acting together.

Post the numbers and we can go from there
