Hello first off I was not sure where to post this and actualy get a response so here we go. I am running a Bio Wheel 280,,Great filter except. I belive there are bugs/Mini Flys, They seem centered around my filters. Have no Idea why they are there or what ther are. They are persistant thoe.

So my question goes as follows: Are these bugs coming from my Filters?Pads? or am I going nuts? I ask because the lid of the tank is completly covered. The only way for a fly to fly in would be when I am doing a water change. Or they are flying in the slots on the top of my HOB filters and making there way into the 1 inc of open space between the water level and the cover.

Only other explanation is they are coming from my water coloum where as I have never herd of this or seen them there. I Have seen "Larva/eggs" floating on the top of my water. Perhaps a surface skimmer might help?

I would say this sail fin, the inside of an aquarium has warm water, warm air temps, a food supply and light, a great environment to hatch larvae. I am reminded of my pond during a warm summer evening, go out and look above the pond. You guessed it flys. So I would guess that if the lid is closed on your aquarium the opening for the bio wheel is the best way out. The larvae on surface of the water is an obvious sign, how they got there is the 64K question. Maybe a good rinsing out would be in order if by some chance there is larvae in the filter somewhere.
