It is impossible to drill or even cut glass once it has been tempered. Well i have heard it is possible to cut it with tin snips under six feet of water, this is because the pressure of the water is greater than the glass, on the other hand once you bring it up and the pressure goes back any flaw you left will cause it to break.

Glass is tempered by heating it to a certain degrees(i don't know exactly what degree) then cooled down at a certain rate. I do know that it is not heated to complete melting, glass also does not get real runny when melted(ever watch someone blow glass) so the hole stays the same.
Just a little useless knowledge here but glass is classified as a liquid it's entire life. If you take an old piece of glass out of some antique it will be thicker at the bottom than at the top.

The only way i can think of how that was done was it was poured on a dye soon after the silica sand was melted and was still hot.

No i have not yet started it ordering the bottom glass Monday. I do plan to take a lot of pictures, i will require help on this build it's not something that can be done by yourself. Most likely will get my wife to take the pics.

However, as bright as the guy must be, he did have quite a few sting rays in the tank so I don't know if I would want to be swimming with them based upon Mr. Irwin's experience. |
I also saw this and it was awesome although i'm not fond of the stingrays and i agree with not swimming with them.
