I?ve had my emperor 280 for over 2 years with out any issues. I feel it?s a good filter for my needs. It keeps my water nice and clean and it?s pretty easy to maintain. The last couple months though its starting to make a weird noise like the sound you would get when sucking up the last bit of a milkshake through a straw, just a little bit of a higher pitch sound. I?ve tried to see what?s happening but every time I get up to look it doesn?t make a sound. Then just when I sit back down again there it is. I would say it happens for about 1 second about every 10 or 15 minuets. I maintain it on a regular time schedule. I take it apart and clean all the parts about every 4 or 5 weeks. Anybody else experience this? Is my filter on its way out?

Hello I myself own one of these filters.
Extremly happy with it. Myne is still "new" as such have not experienced this problem. Where as I have heard of sand/gravel beeing traped down by the impellor wich might cause this problem. Dose the impellor show sings of wear? Have herd they need replacing after a while. Theoreticaly if the impellor is just a bit out of wack it could produce a sound like the milk shake you described? Thats what the owners manuel said.(as well as the LFS where I bought it)


The only "problem" I have is the splashing noise the water makes as it fals back down into my tank. Just cant get my water level at a no noise level. lol Any similar problems?

Not true the cover of the filter rattles once a week perhaps. Usualy if I nudge or move it. The whole thing starts vibrating and making a rattaling sound. Just nudge it with my finger and it stops just as suddenly as it started.
