I know nothing about diagnosing fish since I usually would just ask someone on a forum or any other expert I know.

For being 10 years old, how large is your clown? I know they are slow growing, but it must be pretty big by now! If you have a picture, I would love to see it.

This thread got a little off track from the goo to loaches and back.

Tom is right about the color of cyano it does not have to be blue green. I had an outbreak a few years back and used a 100% blackout. My tank was free of it for about 3 months and it came back. I used Erythromycin at 1/2 strength for 10 days and have never seen it again.

Right now I have a "White Mucus Like" scum patch that forms on the top of my planted Beta tank. It grows and behaves like cyano but I have not seen anything like it before. I can take it out with a scoop of the net, but it reforms in about a week. From observing it I am convinced it is bacterial, or fungal.

Anyone with similar observations?

Regarding the cleaned, tank, the ammonia has remained almost gone for about 24 hours now. The ammo-carb is probably helping here, will check it once a day though.

Edit: Here is the photo of the corner surface of my Betta tank. It is difficult to see the clear mucus stuff on the surface of the water, you can see the dry white deposits on the side of the tank. I have never seen this stuff before??

I've never seen anything like that before, strange.

Update, the goo in my tank is gone for now, will see if it comes back. Someone posted that cyanobacteria smells back, and the beige / tan good I had, didn't have any noticable smell.
