I haven't found anything better either and I've tried chemicals as well like Limeaway, CLR, white vinegar, etc. I get those plastic window edgers for under a buck that hold traditional razor blades. The blades dull and rust after a couple uses but the scraper can be refilled for years.
You could also switch the tank over to a continual flow setup. That would keep the water level from ever dropping and the GH from accumulating due to evaporation along with all the other benefits like flushing out ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, DOC's, etc while keeping the KH, PH and trace additions fish and plants need replensihed. It also can keep the tank from overheating and crystal clear. A slow trickle/drip of water coming in 24/7. |
