I have tried so many different things in the past to scrape, clean, or dissolve them off! I'm talking about the thick white line that apears just above the waterline on your tank when some of the water evaporates.

In your experience what is the best way to get it off? I usually make sure that the water that has been lost to evaporation is replaced every day, but lately I have been slacking and see the white line appear once again!

To me it ruins the whole apperance of the tank and I would like to get rid of it, thanks!

IME, really the only way I've found to get rid of the mineral deposits is with a nice, sharp razorblade.

I'll second that. I haven't found anything better either and I've tried chemicals as well like Limeaway, CLR, white vinegar, etc. I get those plastic window edgers for under a buck that hold traditional razor blades. The blades dull and rust after a couple uses but the scraper can be refilled for years.

You could also switch the tank over to a continual flow setup. That would keep the water level from ever dropping and the GH from accumulating due to evaporation along with all the other benefits like flushing out ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, DOC's, etc while keeping the KH, PH and trace additions fish and plants need replensihed. It also can keep the tank from overheating and crystal clear. A slow trickle/drip of water coming in 24/7.

Thanks for the replies guys, I used white vinigar yesterday and then get on the forum to see that BJP suggested it! What a coincidence!
