Hello,

I've got a question about whether I should do anything to adjust my KH levels in my aquarium.

I have a 29 gallon fs setup with 3 fancy goldfish and no real plants.

Last night, my water test readings were GH 120. KH less than 60. PH 6.5-6.8, Nitrites 0, Nitrates around 20. The only one that is really at an extreme according to my test kit is the KH. Should I add sodium bicarbonate or some other treatment to the tank?

kH doesnt really effect fish directly, the higher it is the better your waters ability to neutralize an acid. With an acid ph, you should have a low kH to keep it stable. With a high pH, you should have a high kh to keep it stable as well.

A KH of 60 or aprox. 3+ dKH is perfectly OK

A GH of 120 or aprox. 6.35 dGH is also perfectly OK

What your tests are telling you is that you have very soft water. You did not mention fish or plants. Plants for instance do better with the dGH a little higher.

I don't see any reason to fool with your tanks chemistry right now.
