Sounds like cyanobacteria.

Can help, need to know what we are dealing with.

There are different options available depending on a few things. If you can provide an answer to some of these questions then we might have a better chance of helping out.

What type of tank do you have that is experiencing the algae bloom?
What are your tank parameters?
How long has the tank been set up?
What kind of lights, and how many watts total do you run over the tank?
How long are the lights on?
Where do you get your water from?
