Potential Filter placement problem?

Hi all, and Happy Lundi Gras!!!

As some here know, we are placing a 110gal. Fw planted tank within a seperating wall, between my bar and the living room since the whole house was guted and some rooms were re-arranged. Any way, I planned a cubbyhole on one side of thre aquarium for the filtration( Rena XP3 ). I will also still have room for a Millenium300 HOB. The Rena j u s t fits.

The prob is, after looking through the manual, it states" Place filter a minimum of 24in. BELOW tank bottom. Will the circulation be effected w/ this setup?

Any advice on this one. I just knew this was gonna be tricky,but if this is the only problem, I'll consider myself lucky.....

Im not postive on this, but as long as the top of the cannister is below the bottom of the intake in the tank it should not be a problem.How far is sopmething you will have to figure out before placing the filter in. It cant be above because the pump is used with gravity it really does not pull the water in, it uses more emphasis on pushing the water back up the hose. Does this make sense?

I would guess they've already figured out what the minnimum drop is. That's why they tell you 24" in the literature. Using less should end up having slower flow rates kinda like trying to vacuum water out of a tank low to the ground. There's just not enough drop to get the water flowing fast enough. I think we helped sniper work through a similar problem about a month ago not having enough drop and having too much tubing running off to a side corner.

I found something weird last fall about having too much drop. I had my water truck parked up at the top of a hill and my drill rig down in a bottom. I had so much water pressure hitting the hammer it stopped it from drilling. I ended up having to put a second tank in by the rig, flow the water from the top of the hill to the smaller tank then let the pump extract it from there for drilling.

Well, thanks for the advice. I guess I'll try to reconfigure the bar area befor it's completely trimmed out..
