| Re: Ph is off and I dont know why.. Please help.. Hey there,
welcome to the forum.
RO = Reverse Osmosis. It is a purified water that takes minerals and other impurities out of the water leaving it at a nice 7.0.
For me, using well water that is not great....(too high KH, nitrites, nitrates high pH etc), it works great. A little more work for my tank because you have to make it ahead of time (35 gallons) and you have to add things back in that are necessary for the fish. Right now I am using straight RO. I am thinking of experimenting with a mix (as many people do with great success).
If your water is good otherwise, I would just use the tap water. When you acclimate your fish, use a drip system and let the water change over slowly in their container before adding them to the tank, say over the course of 2-3 hours. And actually the pet store where you get the fish probably also have a high pH.....still, slower acclimation is better for the fish.
