I want to know, how often do i clean my tank? and also, when adding the tetra easy balance solution , and water conditioner do i have to take out fish? or can i just leave fish inside tank while adding treatments? |

| I do water changes, vacuuming, inside glass cleaning etc. once a week.
I do canister filter cleaning and maintenance, once every three weeks.
IMO a well maintained tank with a routine schedule of water changes and maintenance does not need any chemical treatment other than the product used for detoxing tap water.
The fish can stay in the tank

| I think Jay nailed it right on the head. Though I don't vacuum the whole tank at once, just sections.

| Thank you guys. Once a week is very much for me right now to do water changes, so can i just be adding the easybalance solution once every week like stated on the bottle? meaning i wont have to change water but every 6 months (like stated on the bottle?). Also what is the cost for a vaccuum for tank? and filter changes once every month instead of filter cleaning bi weekly is just as good right? |

| Personally I think that stuff is worthless, if you do weekly or biweekly changes with gravel cleaning and filter cleaning every month you will never need that stuff, or anything like it. |

| Sure It says on the bottle of some algaecides that it is "safe for fish and plants".

| I had a bottle of Jack Daniels once and it said that I would be a very popular guy and go home with a bunch of super hot women if I drank it. I ended up in jail with a bad headache and the closest thing to a woman was a very large man with a mohawk named "sweetlips", or at least that was what one of his tattoos said!.....
Ok, all jokes aside, there is nothing that can absolutely ensure you do not have to change your water every six months other than doing water changes. No chemical I have ever heard of really works as well as advertised. If there was, then this forum would be nonexistant and an ad for that chemical would be on this page.
Trust me, this isnt very hard at all. Changing water (especially with a Python or any other siphon that you can hook to your sink) is easy and not technical at all. Depending on how large your tank is, the time you spend cleaning will be small and I can change water in both my SW and FW tanks in less than an hour on Saturday afternoon. If you want some pointers or tips, let us know what your tank set up is like and we can help you out. |
