New & need lots of help!

I just had a large tank given to me . Can someone tell me how to find out how many gallons it is to start with? It is 30 3/8" x 13 1/2" x 26 3/4". Also I need to know an effective way to remove mineral deposits from the glass? This is the begining of a new and pleasurable hobbie, I hope.

Welcome to the forums.

Id scrub it really good with water and a good brush first to see how that does.
It it doesn't work, they make special chemicals for this, but make sure you really rinse it well before you fill it up

I was told that u could use vinegar or lemon juice(only on an empty tank). But they are very acidic and you must rinse/clean your tank very well before setting up and adding fish.

I would scrub the tank with a saltwater mixture and a light scrub pad(only on glass) or a tank pad on the stick; Icant remember the name of those scrub pads, they come in 3 different colors(Ithink they are called scotch brite; but dont use on acrylic tanks) depending on coarseness. You want light pads. or a nylon chore boy. Then just rinse clean

Id just stick w/ a wet rag honestly.

From what I've read from his posts, it comes off easy, just grows back fast.

Re: New & need lots of help!

Welcome to the best FTF there is. Pleanty of good advice/help from really nice people. I would scrub hard with water only, it worked on the used tank that I bought and i did not have to worry whether or not I got any residue off that could possibly harm tank residents. Glad you have joined us we are here to help an dsupport in any way we can. We would also like to invite you to vote for this website!!
