OK i got it up and I'm sure it will work got 3 piles of 3 with a 1/2' thick piece of ply wood on top along with 2 wood legs in the back. i painted them and added a sheet to match my furniture looks pretty good

How about a picture to share? Would love to see it since I am in the process of setting up my second 55 gallon tank. :-) Need cheaper stands!!!!

I used cinder blocks for years before I finally bought stands.

It was nice because I had five tanks at the time, a 20, a 29, a 40 show, and two ten gallon tanks. I lined three tanks along one wall, and two along the other and had the tanks meet at the corner. I used different amounts of blocks so that they weren't all the same height. You could sit there for hours and never get bored. I sort of miss it now.

I talked with the cement co salesman yesterday. He told me I shouldnt do it, more work that I would be able to handle and I live in a trailer, I'll never get it level. I agree with what he had to say, balancing a wood stand is a lot easier.
