Plywood aquarium

My next tank will be made of plywood. I was just searching through all the DIY sites for sumps, stands etc.. when i came across a couple that showed plywood tanks. I don't know what it is about them but they look awesome with the three black sides and glass front ! plus as it sounds the bigger the tank the more you actually save in the long...very cool.
anyone on these forums know someone that has or have built one before ?

No...but they sure are neat! Looks like you'll have quite the big project should you start one of these bad boys! What size were you planning?

Re: Plywood aquarium

My wife and I plan on buying a house soon so once we find what we are looking for ( the market is crazy here right now ) i will incorporate it into the basement. luckily my profession enables me to get my hands on all kinds of construction material for free plywood, 2x4's, cinder blocks etc... so the project will be that much cheaper as for now its just a thought bubble but down the road who knows

I just wanted to get ideas and thoughts on peoples experiences with this type of tank, if built right they should last a long time.

LOL!!! I know...when we're driving down the road my kids will ask me, "Mom...why are there cars passing us?" How bad is that!!! I must drive so fast that it's odd to my kids to be passed! I guess that's all those years driving in Southern California. Darn Caleeeefornians!

And about Sea World...HEY...we can pretend.

Re: Plywood aquarium

built one years ago for a shop it was 2ft high 4 ft wide 8 ft long. use good glue and plenty of screws at corners 1/2 in glass front, 3/4 marine plywood leave 4 inches of wood around the front overlap the glass at least 2 inches seal with silicon. before installing glass seal all joints with silicon and paint inside with an epoxy paint 2 coats. I put 3 cross braces on the top to keep it from bowing to save you some misery make length 1 1/2 inches short of 8 ft so you will have less problems than i did when making a light hood.
