fluval fx5

i will be setting up a 125 gallon freshwater african chiclid tank in the future. i was at the LFS and they had the fx5 on sale for 189. its a great deal!!!! my question is has anyone heard of any complaints in useing this filter?? i know fluvals are a great brand as i have a 305 now and just love it. unfortunatly its not big enough for a 125 and i would have to get another one which would be around 150 so for the extra 30 bucks might as well go bigger. if anyone has heard any negative feedback from it share with me pls.

Re: fluval fx5

I love my FX5! I have one on my 170G. They are really easy to instal, and start, all you have to do is add 8 liters of water and away it goes. I have every confidence in it.
The only thing that was abit of a problem when installing was the clips to hold the intake and outlet pipes. My tank was custom made and there just wasn't the space. But I improvised and it works fine.
I am running a large native in my 170G. I filled the baskets with ceramics and added filter wool on the top, which suits the conditions I want.

Good luck!

Re: fluval fx5

thanks for the reply. i went out and got one today. this will prompt me to finish the basement rater quickly now so i can setup my tank lol. i'm thinking about trying it out in the 55 so i get use to it. think that will be a bit too much overkill? what kind of fish do you keep in the 170? are they messy fish?

Re: fluval fx5

Ive only got one fish in the 170, its the guy in my sig, he's about 45cm. He is not messy but because hes big produces alot of ammonia through his breathing. I can even mostly just scoop his poos out of the tank. There seems to be alot of water movement from the outlet pipe, so you might get a big current. You would however have to cut the hoses and the inlet tube and it might not be the right size for the new 125. I don't think i would do it.
