Re: Filter question

I don't think too much filtration could be a bad thing.

Re: Filter question

The more the better is the clue on filtration. As long as the current isn't strong enough to knock your fish around you'll be fine.

But with the 2 filters you could run them at lower settings (if so available) and still have more filtration than you would have with just one filter

Re: Filter question

Regarding filtration, I just set up a 55 gallon freshwater tank and it came with Aqua-tech 30-60 filter (similar to Whisper 30-60). I got the kit from Wal-mart. Beacuse of all the reviews I read, I wanted to upgrade the filter to Marineland Emperor 400. Is it a good idea? or better stay with the filter I have. I was thinking to upgrade now, instead than later since I'm cycling my aquarium (1 week old) and wanted to give time for the bacteria to grow in the biowheel. Should I upgrade? Will excesive current affect the fish?. Am I only spending money for no clear gain?

Re: Filter question

Hey dragan - welcome to the forum!

I started out with the exact same 55 gallon 'kit tank' and found that the best option for me was to not just upgrade filters, but run two of them. In general, there really isn't such a thing as too much filtration, only wasted filtration...but in this case, I think you would only see benifits from having more than your kit came with. Adding another filter should not be a problem at any time and if you really only wanted one filter, you wouldn't lose a lot of time if you placed the filter media that you are currently in the new filter.

Again, welcome to the forum! If you have any other questions be sure to ask them since there are literally thousands of people here who can help you out with anything.

Re: Filter question

Than you for the advice. after reading your comments, I went ahead and ordered the Emperor 400. I paid $ 42.00 on PetSmart.com; on the actual store (Pet Smart), for the same filter the price is $79.00

Re: Filter question

Right now I am using an older Whisper filter I believe it said stage 3 or something like that. I had to change the impeller in it, but it works great.
Would like to upgrade the filter, but will wait until it finally goes. I like how it is still a quiet filter without any real issues.
