Question lip problem

Hopefully this is a place that I can get some help.
I just noticed that one of the platy's mouth is sort of chiped. It's upper lip's eat seems like it got eaten away so it's mouth is like a little hole. It's scale - I can see one is coming out. I don't know...other fish are fine right now. no rot fin or anything. Even my new blue ram cichlids are fine. Has this happened to your fish before? Is it something that can be healed? It is very special to me since it is the first baby that I raised in my tank, it is now an adult size, so I really hope it'll be cured.

Please help~~

Re: lip problem

I had a similar problem, and I am not sure if you are willing to do this, but what I did was net the fish, dab a q-tip in some MELAFIX and then take the fish out of water for ONE SECOND. This must be done very quick as of course...Fish are not supposed to be out of water, but it was recommended to me once and it works. Just dab the affected area twice, let the fish go in the water. The said fish is still swimming happily around my tank. He was also in his on quarantine tank while this was happening. I just hate treating my whole tank, and it uses a lot of melafix. So this works well.

Re: lip problem

Thanks. It is still surviving and seems like the lips are growing back. But one or two of its scale is falling out. It's in the temporary quarantine tank - probably for two more days.
