White Molly //cycling tank ich issue HELP?

I am cycling 10 gallon tank to use as a grow out tank. I have 4 demasoni in a breeded net waiting for tank.
I have a white molly that I bought for my daughters 20 gallon last week in the cycling tank. I traded her hob filter to step up the cycle. Her tank had just cleared of nitrites and amonia the week before.
The Molly and the ich are the same color so I did not notice until today as the tail has a couple of cloudy spots. After looking closer I am sure this fish is just covered with ich. I want to help the fish and I also do not want to do anything that will harm the fry when they eventually have to be put in tank.
Should I put salt in 10 gal tank and how much? I have been having a problem stabalizing the temp it seems to want to go down about 3 degrees at nite. No amonia but the nitrates are a little high about 3. The tank is 4 days into cycle. Should I shut filter off or take out carbon when I add the salt. Will the salt interrupt the cycle? There might be other questions I should be asking.

I have sea salt and aquarium salt. Could some one please tell me if that can be use instead of the pickling salt? After reading this article I would like to try salt but am still not sure whether or not I should turn filter off?

Re: White Molly //cycling tank ich issue HELP?

you should add 1 tblspn of salt per 5 gallon. so i would say about 2 tblspn's and raise temp slowly to about 85. someone else with more info should chime in shortly.

Go to our articles section and read the article on diagnosing and treating ICH..We recommend the salt (NaCl) and elevated heat method to treat the whole tank.

Good Luck...

Regards,
Jay

Re: White Molly //cycling tank ich issue HELP?

Just thought I would come back and say thanks Jay. Most of the spots have fallen off the white molly. I added 20 tsp of salt over a 24 hour period. The highest temp I have managed to reach is 84.4 F. That's with the heater cranked to the max. I also added extra oxygen with a air pump and bubble wand.
I have also added 42 tsp salt to my 20 gal tank, that is the tank molly was in first. I haven't noticed any white spots on those fish but the orange sword tails seem to have tiny brown spots on there heads and I was wondering if that is ich or maybe velvet? I cranked the temp on that tank as well and put a blanket over it to make it dark after reading some materials on velvet. I am not sure if that is what it is though. I have also added a air stone to this tank. Fish are swimming around and acting normal. Two female and one male sword tail three cory cats and a female beta.
