I think there is a world wide discus club maybe they could help??then share you're findings with the forum FWIW Bernard ps address may be in TFH or FAMA;I think there is also a Discus magazine www.clearwateraquatics.com in 2001 oct fama mag.maybe email to ignatius,tavares@kcl.ac.uk same mag. good luck;maybe someone else would chime in/

Thanks for the pictures, when i find my camera il'l post these guys. when they start to show their true colours that is!

One of mine is what i think a pretty nice colbolt blue, two red tourquise and a small blue tourquise.

I think the colour thing is a power struggle to find out who is going to be the boss of the tank. Could this be possible? do they change colour like this because of that?

I'll up date as things change.

I never really messed with discus much but I'm sure they change colors when fighting or from stress just like most other cichlids and fish in general

Well, the discus you see in my pictures were always that color - their color doesn't change. What changes is whether the black stripes are visible or not. If they are stressed, the black stripes become darker and the blue color fades. Try to keep them with the black stripes almost gone and you'll be doing pretty well.

By the way ... what is a "murray cod"?

I had an opaline gourami that got hole in head. I quarentined him and treated him with melafix/pimafix for a while and noticed it wasn't doing any better. then I picked up Metro+ by Aquarium solutions. Now just to give you an idea how well this stuff worked, my fish literally had a hole in his side that, when he would eat, food would come out. Laterlaine disease is a B***H! But anyways, it ended up closing up so well that all he had was a concave side. I Highly recomend meds by Aquarium Solutions. They look a little cheap (bright pink and blue colors) but they work.

G day, time for an up date!

I am currently at this minute transfering the picked on dark discus into the tank i used to keep thomas in when it was only him. He has started to get his fins shredded, and this is as far as i am willing to take a settling in period. The LFS reckons it is just settling in but i figure i will get him back to health and then try to introduce him again, maybe with another bigger discus?. It is just to sad to let a magnificant fish like this get recked.

The hole in the head has not advanced with the increased water changes and a change in diet. if it even was. the lfs now reckons they might just be sensory pores. I'm not sure, they are not in any symectrial pattern, which would tell me they were ment to be there! I fit does get advanced i know my lfs has melafix, but i will see if they can get any aquarium solutions stuff, it sounds like miracle stuff!

A murray cod, cassab is the freshwater sport fish of australia. They grow to well over a meter and up to 200 pound. I have posted pictures of him in the general freshwater disscusion section if you want to see. He is really cool. He has green spots all over his tophalf with a creamy white underbelly. I got him when he was about 3cm long, he is now about 45cm.
