Re: dying fish

Sorry about your troubles, losing fish can be very stressful and frustrating, but we will get right to the point...

Is this a new tank? If so is it cycled? I don't know much but I know the basics. You didn't post any water stats so if you could do that it would be great, ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates...etc. Did you notice anything strange about the fish? Also, are you conditioning your water? 10 gallons is pretty small. Also..you said you had orandas, those are cold water fish.. Jack dempseys are a cichlid and they need warmer water (you'd need a heater), so water temp could be an issue. It's hard to say, post some more info and we will try and help

Re: dying fish

Hey osca town - welcome to the forum!

Carriej has you headed in the right direction. You might also want to take a look at this article to find a list of questions that, if you can answer, would help out a bunch as well:
http://www.fishtankforums.com/fishtank/Answers

It is also important to note that all water is not created equally and for this reason, it is important to take some steps to help new fish acclimate themselves to our tank because it could be very different from the water at the store. Here is an article detailing some simple, and every effective methods of doing so. Even though it mentions saltwater livestock often, it definitely pertains to freshwater fish and will greatly reduce the risks of osmotic shock....which I think could very well be your problem with the JD (as well as those pointed out by carriej).

As already pointed out, the more information you can provide, the higher the likelihood that we can help you get to the bottom of this.
