| Re: Fish tuberculosis ...KEP...
Let me emphatically 'vouch' for Jay here....he has used the not washing hands comment before and I am 100% sure that he meant no harm by it.
Additionally, I will also strongly support the notion that no one on this forum is attempting to 'downplay' or underestimate the seriousness of Fish TB...or any other ailment for that matter...in even the slightest amount. While I would never attempt to speak for anyone else, I am still 100% sure that the point many of us are trying to get across is that, with some rather simple and common sense precautions, there is not a huge need for all of us to throw out every aquarium and its inhabitants out of fear.
Lastly, I will point out (again) that there are many problems that can occur when relying solely on this form of non-verbal communication and so I urge anyone and everyone to please 'hear' only the best of intentions out of other member's posts...and as you point out, this is something that even I have had trouble with in the past, which only helps make me that much more aware of the problems this can cause. That being said, I agree with Jay whole heartedly when he says that no 'ruckus' has occured here and there should be no offense taken to any and/or all comments made. |

| Re: Fish tuberculosis I think this took a serious turn. I believe as serious as fish TB can be on our population, there are many different ailments that have fish TB traits. I have been a fan of this forum and defending that at least in my case they have hit almost all concerns with professionalism with the moderators and super moderators researching themselves before the reply to problem we in our fish world have.
I don't believe they down play any issue we have, on the contrary, on the last post about fish TB I believe all the moderators did research seeing this as a potentially serious and deadly.
I truly believe all of the moderators here should be paid for there services.
They care about what they do and they care about our fish, live rock, plants etc......
There I've put my 2 cents in. I think you all here in the forum are great!!!!!!!!!

| Re: Fish tuberculosis I surely do not want to beat this topic to death, but I was thinking about it on my commute home yesterday.
My doctor has an aquarium in his waiting room and it hit me, so does my dentist, and there is one in the waiting room for outpatient and emergency services at the local hospital. I eat in several restaurants that have giant aquariums in the dining room. My local grocer has a lobster tank which he reaches into frequently.
I guess my point is to reinforce the fact that while possibilities exist, clearly, my local board of health, dental, and medical establishments do not see a clear and present danger. <- These guys are also big on hand washing
Regards,
Jay

| Re: Fish tuberculosis 1. I understand standard precautions/handwashing. Since I was oh, maybe 5. Pretty sure it was covered in Nursing school too, and I passed the test. And my national exams too. Pretty good, huh?
2. I understand that fish TB is not human TB
3. I understand enough to know better than to throw out my tank and shiver in fear about fish TB ( pretty sure I have better odds of being hit by a car than getting fish TB BUT it is more serious than I first gave it credit: that was my point)
4. I understand I am back on this site looking for answers after I said I wouldn't be and I'm not sure why.

| Re: Fish tuberculosis Oh my....where has this thread gone....
I never intended for anyone to feel insulted or anything, just wanted to bring some peace of mind to people....
TB treatment is certainly not a pleasant experience and it is something I hope nobody ever has to go through... I watched my gparents do tb treatment, a RN brought thier meds to the house everyday for forever it seemed like, and every member of the family plus close friends had to go get tested for it....
I am terribly sorry if this thread brought unintended offense to anyone as that is not it's intent....just trying to help educate myself and maybe others as well....
K- please don't give up on this forum....it is really good and the mods do care about the forum users, thier feelings and their problems....I know everyone tries hard to make others feel comfortable and welcome...but sometimes typed words don't come out quiet right....after all, it is rather hard to convey emotions with a keyboard and monitor......:-)
Keep on posting K- I for one would love to read 'em and will be looking for them!!!!!!
Take care!

First, ditto on what Fern has said about you not giving up on this forum -- there are literally hundreds of hobbyists here who are more than happy to help anyone out in any way he/she can, including everyone who has posted and/or read this thread.
That being said, and going above and beyond my previous comments as to the problems which can arise when using this form of communication (i.e. misinterpreted comments - which I believe is the case here), I also want to point out that, as I just eluded to, it is all but guaranteed that other members are reading this post, even though they are not replying themselves, which creates some 'need' to explain things a bit more in detail so that we can all learn equally...or in more simple terms, even though we understand that you have extensive knowledge or expertise regarding health concerns, to leave some ideas/info out of a reply because of that would lessen the value of this thread for all members IMHO. So, please don't feel as though anyone here was 'talking down' on you, nor discounting your knowledge by bringing up some slightly more basic items. Make sense?
Lastly, I am glad that, for whatever reason, you are back and posting on FTF if for nothing else than your ability to contribute your job experience and knowledge for the benefits of others, as well as the information and ideas you already possess and will gain in the future. |
