Fin Rot?

In my 38gallon tank i have 3 gold gouramis, 2 of which I believed to have fin rot. Parts on there tails and fins were black and literally looked like they were rotting off. So i went to the pet store and bought the proper medicine. I am currently on my third week of using this fallowing all the directions and nothing has helped! Infact i think it has gotten worse! I also have a 20gallon tank which is fairly new(1-2months) I was thinking if i moved them to the smaller tank i could concentrate the medicine or something. What should i do!

Re: Fin Rot?

Buy some malachite green, catch the fish and dab the malachite directly to the infected spot on tail or any fins with a q-tip. Repeat this every four to five days till the tail rot disapears and new growth begins. Make sure you wear gloves while applying the malachite, and remember it does stain so do this on a towel you dont mind getting rid of.

Re: Fin Rot?

Generally from dirty tanks, although they can be purchased with the beginning stages. Thus why it is good to use quarantine tanks before adding new fish to an established aquarium.
