Angry My fish keeps dieing.

OK I have got guppies and platys. I have had one a day die and can not figure out why. The ammonia is safe. And I got the Quick Dip 5 test in one strip. For the Ph. And I still don't know where I'm going wrong at.

we are going to need alot more info than that please, what is your nitrate level, nitrite, and ammonia. when you say your ammonia is safe, the only safe ammount is zero. how big is your tank, how long has it been running? did you cycle it or did you set it up and just add the fish. as for your testing supplies, liquid is the way to go. testing strips can vary in accuracy and liquid is always on the mark. you will need a ( liquid ) ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and ph to accuratly take care of your tank. but the more test kits the better. as for your fish dieing, it doesnt need to be the ammonia. to high of a ph, nitrate, and nitrite. even just one could be a silent killer lurking in your tank. do they have frayed fins, maybe another fish is killing them. it is possible that one of your fish is territorial. have you used a antibiotic in your tank lately. some of the chemicals in medications can kill other fish. some are just ment for live bearrers, while others are just ment for invertibrates. there are many variables in this situation.

Good luck
&

The tank is 29 gallon and the ammonia is .25. But the Quick Dip Strips I don't like them because it doesn't show what the levels are.(Ph, Nitrate, Nitrite, Hardness, and Alkalinity.) And it's not other fish killing them done looked.

29, in a tank that size ammonia builds up fast if its not cycled. im going to assume you didnt cycle your tank because i am pretty sure that a cycled tank would not have an ammonia reading at all. i suggest you read the cycling sticky.

http://www.fishtankforums.com/5-fres...-aquarium.html

What fish do you have in the tank and how many. if you did not cycle the tank ( which takes aproximatly 1 month at the shortest ) i suggest you bring the fish back to the store you got them from asap for credit or $ if possible. If you bought the fish from walmart it honestly wouldnt suprise me the fish have died. most fish you buy from walmart will have a dieses of some sort and will die soon after the purchase. Hardness and Phy you can usually get by if you aclimate them right. what i do is leave the bag floating in the tank for 3 + hours and add 1 cup of water every five minutes untill time runs out or the bag is full. but i highly recomend you buy some LIQUID test kits for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite, PH . its always handy to know what your ph is.
also i recomend when you are done reading this you do a 30% water change which would be 8.7 gallons.

I know better to buy fish from Wal-Mart. And I had the newest fish for two weeks and I take 30% of the water out once a week. Now I have had my tank for 5 years now.
3 Neon Tetra
1 Plecostomus
12 guppies
5 Platies
3 Cherry Burbs
Now the Neon and the Plecostomus I've had for a year or longer. Now it's hard to take any back because I live 50 miles from the best pet store.

ah 5 years, thats a long time, i would not return the fish. maybe its just old age. but i would go get some liquid test kits asap. we will need to know the nitrate and nitrite levels to figure whats killlig tghe fish accuratly. are they acting strange> hard to swim. not eating? i would keep an eye on the fish.
