Hole in the Head

I'm not sure, but I noticed a strange dot on the head of my Madagascan Rainbow yesterday. I only got him a few days ago, and now I'm afraid he's got hole in the head. I'm hoping someone can help me identify and help me cure him. Here is a picture.

I would return him while you aren't attached to it. HITH can only really be cured with impecible water quality and time. It will also leave quite a scar.

I would wait to see if it is HITH or not though. It might just be a freckle of sorts. Is it growing?

I don't know if it's growing or not. Like I said I've only had him a few days, and I only noticed it yesterday.

As of today, a week after purchase, the spot seems to be the same size. I'm not sure how long HITH takes to develop, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Hole in the head is generally a progressive type problem which obviously can vary in speed, but if the spot is not getting larger, or new spots appear, I would wait for any treatment for now.

It is also contagious and so watch your other fish as well. If you see more spots, or this one gets larger, then I would worry. It could be a simple wound or something along those lines. Generally, hole in the head is more apparent than just...well, a hole...and there will be oozing from the site as well.

Have you dealt with HITH before? Were you able to cure it? Ive been told it is not curable, but Ive been struggling with it for a long time now. Do you have any advice?
