| Sos!!!! This is the only fish I planned on getting, so no qt tank does this look like ick? has anyone heard of a sort of pseudo-ick? I had someone tell me that if they're eating ok and not rubbing or showing any other signs of ick or distress to ignore them.. So far there's only 5 spots, no distress *atleast for the fish* I'm really nervous this is my first and only fish I want. I've got an anemone, an anemone crab, a cleaner shrimp and multiple hermit crabs so i've got to be careful how i treat, but I just don't want to get burned again by saltwater and lose this fish... btw my parameters are negative across the board on water tests and when i got the fish 2 weeks ago, I drip acclimated over 2 hours. Sorry about the quality of the shots... cheap camera |

| Re: Sos!!!! JDinWV,
The picture are bit difficult but it looks like ick to me. I have never heard of pseudo ICK (not to say definitely it does not exist). You are correct in wanting to treat carefully. Do uyou have the ability to put this fish in a QT location / tank and treat so that you do not introduce things to the main display tank. There is a pretty good sticky on marine ick if I recall correctly.

| Re: Sos!!!! The times I have delt with ich, it will get noticeably worse each day. Three days from now you will know for sure. I treat for ich in two ways. I chop garlic and feed to fish prior to their regular food. Let me emphasize fresh garlic NOT a formula.
I use a product call kick-ich. It is safe for reef tanks. I have inverts that have been through two doses and doing fine 6 months later. This product may not work on all fish and results will obviously vary. It is more expensive than copper treatments.

| Re: Yea!!! Hi, I have had coral beauties for years, mine get those and always attributed it to him/her scraping on the rock. They are crazy! They love to go in and out of the rock, squeezing through really tight spots. I think they get nicks and like yours a couple days later they look fine. As a precaution though (I'm always a little paranoid) when I see a nick I add "stress coat" to help in the healing. |

| Re: Yea!!! Hello there,
Be careful with saying you are in the clear. If it was ICH it could be in between life stages. Once ICH seems to clear from fish one day. It comes back twice as bad a day or two later. I would say if you don't see any whitish spots for a week then you are in the clear.
If it re-appears, your display tank is now infested with ICH and that means this parasite is now reproducing in your tank. Once this occurs it is best said to remove all fish in the display tank for 6-8 weeks. This is how long the ICh life cycle will last, 6-8 weeks. It also needs a "host" to survive, fish are its only host. You will try and wait out their life cycle and kill them off.
Good Luck
Brad

| Re: Sos!!!! Good advise Nereaga! I completely agree. The Ich may be going through one of its multiple gestation periods. Be careful JD, looks can be deciving. Ich is a pain in the Ass to get rid off. But once its gone you can use a preventitive additive like Marine-Max. This will help to boost your fishes immune system. Regular quarentine practices are still recommended.
