Please help me save my Tang I have a yellow tang that has developed a swimming problem. He just falls to the bottom of the tank and flops on his side. He also has gotten very skinny. I have separated him in a fry tank and hand feeding him with a syringe (I have kept him alive for about a week this way). The local fish store sugested it may be parasites, and gave me a little anti-parasite meds, although the anti parasite med is really for freshwater fish, I was desparate to do something.
I will try to answer as many of your suggested questions as possible.
1) tank is 9 months old
2) The tank is 30 gallons
3) lighting - Pro current orbit w 65 w daylight and 65 w actinic and lunar lights
4) chemical levels - don't know exact levels but just had water tested yesterday and was told all levels look fine except calcium is a "little high"
5) temperature - 75 degrees
6) filtration - fluval undergravel w protein skimmer
7) change filtration media - every 2 or 3 months?
8) water chage - once a month
9) feed - every other day 1 cube of DT's (except tang every day right now)
tang - gets mixture of sea veggies, zooplex, spirulina, and parasite meds'
10) water is combo of filtered sea water, with dechlorinated tap water added
11) current is sufficient
12) live rock - 10 lbs.
13) other specimens - 2 clowns, brittle star, sea urchin, crabs, snails, soft corals
14) chemicals I dose with - coral vite and B-Ionic Calcium buffer
