Ocellaris Problem

I have had my ocellaris clowns for about 2 weeks now. I just noticed today that my smaller clown has a small growth right on its under belly in between its pelvic and anal fin. It seems to be under the skin and is about the size of a pencil led tip. Does anyone know what this could be???

Can you get a pic? From what you said tough it could be fungus or it mabey even be a internal roundworm. Though I am not sure just try not to use any copper base treatments.

I did a little bit of research and from what I have read I think that it is cystiviris (or the cauliflower disease) I watched her closely and noticed that is on her skin. From what I have read it is not normally fatal and I can apparently "scrape" it off. Has anyone ever done this?? I'm a little nervouse about doing it. I am isolating her for now to see what happens and then I'll attempt to scrape it off when I know more about that... any advice would help! Thanks

I have done it before you just have to be gentle while removing it if you do not want to scrap it off you can set up a bowl of fresh water and dip the clown fish in for 3-8 seconds because salt water disease can not live in fresh water it usually falls off and do not worry it is not enough time to harm the fish.

should I stablaize the pH to 8.2 or jsut leave it and condition the water and dip her??

you should just leav it as is because she is not going to be in there long enough for it to make a diffrence.

Freshwater dips are hit or miss. Some claim they work and others don't. Your best bet is to set up a hospital tank and treat her for her fungus in there. It doesnt have to be big even a 5 gallon tank would do for a clown.

It is better to treat medications in a seperate tank, rather than a display tank. Just in my personal experience, its easier and cheaper to treat a smaller tank than a bigger one.

Now that I read this article ans others, they say there is no known treatment for the disease. They say larger cyst will fall off over time. I would quaratine this clown until it disappears. Hope some of that helps you out. Good Luck! Brad

I agree with you Nereaga the fresh water dips are a hit and a mis but it is worth a shot they have worked for me and when they don't time usually will heal the wounds but I donot think meds work but that is just my opinion and sometimes it is to late and the fish just dies that comes with owning fish sometimes you get unlucky and there is nothing you can do but move on and get another.

You are right about that, I got fish already that just were not cut out for one more move. There can be some luck involved. If I purchased a sick fish from a lfs, I would be hesitant on going back for another fish.
