| Re: Regal Tang with Ich I am glad to hear things are going good! By far the best Ich treatment is prevention and so if you can keep your fishes' immune system, that will be your best bet by far!
Just to clear up any misnomers that might be left, you should know that the common myth that Ich is always in an aquarium is most likely driven by the fact that marine Ich can hang around in a tank for much much longer in a saltwater tank than its equivalent in freshwater tanks. So, your treatments, if working, should continue much much longer than the day you notice the last white spot fall off of your fish. Ich can be in your tank without any white spots on your fish! This is why UV can be pretty useful IMO and IME. Otherwise, as was suggested, it might be a good idea to think about a hospital or quarantine tank for the future. I dont want to steal your thunder or anything, but I wouldn't assume that you are completely out of the woods yet. Marine Ich is often much harder to treat and a completely different thing than Freshwater Ich. |

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Like you said, and just like Nereaga experienced, it seems as though I am not completely out of the woods, just yet. Yesterday, she seemed a bit worse than days past.
I am going to a local store tonight to pick up a 10G tank, small filter and hitting a hardware store for some PVC.
I will use majority RO water and mix the water tonight directly in the QT, but I'm going to pull some water from my main tank. I'll stop and pick up copper treatment tomorrow and attempt to transfer her tomorrow evening.
With all that I've read, it seems as though I should give her a 60 second dip in straight RO water with no salt before placing her in the QT, right?
Thanks.

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Dont just use time for the dip, you may want to pull her out if she tips to her side without moving any more. If she is already stressed 60 seconds could be too long.

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Well, bad news everyone. I lost my Regal during the night. I was able to get my QT setup, but I think it was just a bit too late.
Really sucks and both my girlfriend and I are quite disappointed, more so her, than me. But we can't become experts overnight and on our first salt tank. It's a learning experience, sure, but it's an expensive one. I'm just thankful that the Midas is still looking strong and is showing no signs of Ich.
So this leads me to a question, my girlfriend is pissed as the LFS. She thinks they should have some sort of guaranty, at least for the first couple days the fish is brought home. She was only in the tank approx. 24 hours before she started showing signs. Has anyone had any experience with a shop either replacing a fish or offering some sort of discount in a similar situation?
And thanks everyone for the suggestions on trying to cure her. She fought long and hard, but I don't think I took action quick enough.

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Im very sorry for the loss, there such a beautifull fish!!, Unfortunaltely the regal; is Very prone to ick, but if they can get by the first week in your tank, they will usually make it. But And also some local fish stores will give live guarentees, some dont. Its up to the individual store. What other fish do you have in the tank, and how old id the tank?
Again, really sorry, but dont get discouraged!!

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Sorry for your loss, have you checked with your LFS to see if they will replace it? Mine has a 48 hour time frame if there are issues, but as Achilles mentioned some stores do not. I would be willing to bet, almost all of us have been in the same boat at one time or another, it really is part of the learning curve.

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich The tank has had LR since Feb 14th and the first critters were introduced the middle of March. I was testing water parameters 2 - 3 times each week and my numbers were in the good to excellent range. And I had already gone through my minor algae bloom.
The only other fish I have in the tank is the Midas Blenny which I bought the same day. So, my thought is that she had Ich when I brought her home and the stress of the move lowered her immune system and it took hold.

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Tangs are more likely to be affected by ICH than most other fish due to the fact they have a much thinner "slime" coating which allows them to swim 25+ miles per day looking for food. Have you added garlic to your fishes diet? If not I rec. you do so as it boosts their natural imune system to help fight of disease and parasite issues.

| Re: Regal Tang with Ich Yup, I purchased a bottle of Kent Garlic Xtreme. Even though I lost the Tang, I'm still using the garlic for my blenny and he seems to love it.
Thanks for the suggestion.
