| IMO, you can not beat ICH without a hospital tank (unless it is fish only), I am sure others will dis agree. I would set up the hospital tank, treat it with copper and that will cure the fish, as for the display, it needs to stay running for at least 6 weeks (I keep mine empty for 8) without any fish in it. The parasites will go thru several life cycles but without a fish host they will die off and your tank WILL BE ICH FREE. You can use water from your display for your hospital tank to help speed up the cycling process as well as a cup of substrate, I would recommend you do put some hiding places in there as well, if you do not have a couple pieces of base rock to use, you can use a couple pieces of PVC pipe.
After all is said and done you can then use the hospital tank as a QT to make sure you do not re-introduce parasites in your display, by doing that and keeping new fish in there for 4-6 weeks before adding to your display you will greatly reduce if not eliminate the problems from coming back. |

| Thanks Chitown1,i see but will the copper remain absorbed in the live rock? & with this harm the live organisms that are present within it? Or will the 6 wk period also rid the tank of the Coppper?
I just found out the other day that my hose that was attached to my UV sterilizer was pinched, i dont know for how long, maybe a wk,since i check everything every sat.Maybe this contributed to the problem?
Yep i think i can get a quarantine tank for about 50 bucks,i guess since i spent so much money so far that wont ruin me.Otherwise i wont feel safe in getting new livestock. Thanks much for help!

As for the UV, it really is not a huge factor for fighting parasites, its main purpose is water clarity not parasite control. It will kill any of the parasites that pass through it, but many more will still be in the tank, attached to rock, substrate etc and they are not affected at all by a UV. |

| When I use copper in a hospital tank, I don't wait for a cycle to complete as the copper would kill off the beneficial bacteria anyway.
I use ChlorAm X to bind up ammonia, and I do water changes, replacing copper for the water I change.
