So, maybe a freshwater dip, or medicated dip, may be the only alternative for one person in a pinch. So....what then?
| ya, what now chittown?
hehe, just kidding, but tommys got a real legit point, it really depends mostly on the circumstance, freshwaterdips can be quite helpful in some cases, and may make things worse in others. |

I have never used the freshwater dip myself, but I know first hand that one person on this forum had success with it on a porcupine puffer. In that case, the circumstances may have been different than most, or maybe not...who knows. I am not defending one method over another, but just keeping that door open.
Also, let's face it, not everyone has a q-tank and while the best advice would obviously be to get one, or get out of the hobby, that is not something a whole lot of people would be attuned to listen to. Before I would ever recommend a dip, I would suggest picking up a used 20 gallon tank, which I have purchased for as little as $20, a couple pieces of base rock to provide some hiding places, which would cost around $10-$20 and that is all you need for a hospital tank, a skimmer is not needed as most medications will not allow a skimmer to be used anyway, a small price to pay for a fish that costs more than that to replace not to mention the fact it is in your care and should receive proper treatment IMO. |

| And I COMPLETELY agree with you Chitown1! Honestly and whole heartedly.
The only reason I feel like engaging in this chat is becasue this forum is really centered around people who are new to the hobby...and I realize that not everyone here is new by any means, but you get my gist, right?
The point is, without fail, someone here is going to come to the forum looking for help and needing it in a short amount of time and a q-tank may not be an answer he or she can provide instantly.
However, enough of the 'what ifs' and all that. I think the point is clear that a q-tank is by far the best answer and no need to beat that dead horse anymore really. Right? |
