| drifting mushrooms... So this happened once before, but it was only with two and it happened a week or so afer i put a new rock of shrooms in the tank.....
Now, in the last two days i have noticed my mushrooms coming off the rock and drifting onto the sand, and then i assume dying because they arent attached to anything and they end up floating around in the current. water params are normal, temp is normal, nothing is different. it started with my lime green shrooms and i just now noticed a blue one as well on the sand bed. when this happened before it was only the lime green ones, and only two. now its random, and ive lost probably 5 in a 36 hour period.
any ideas? |

| Re: drifting mushrooms... They either aren't happy where they are (light or flow) or something is off with your water. I here they need iodine, but don't use it myself. |

| Re: drifting mushrooms... Hi pup, long time no hear! Well, when we say all params are good, that doesn't mean everything is good (at least for the coral) as far as chemicals produced by many coral. The only reason they move usually is they aren't happy. I put in a decent size rock a few months back with 5 mushrooms on it. As an experiment I placed it so one was facing in and slightly under a ledge. In about a month, sure enough, it dislocated and reattached itself to another rock with better flow and light. |

| Re: drifting mushrooms... ya i moved the rock just now, to a higher area in the tank... but im going to move it slightly in incriments, as ive seen some corals react badly to being moved from a low area of light/flow to an area with high flow/light. so now its in the middle middle of the tank. i connected the three shrooms i found on the sand bed to a rock. the one blue one was already attached to a small piece of debris so i just glued the debris to the rock. all three shrooms look very upset right now, but i placed them in a very low flow area as ive heard its better to place them in that area when they are attempting to attach to rock. should i have them in high or low light? right now they are in high light as that is where the absolute lowest amount of flow is... its a crevice type area, so flow has been obstructed. |

| Re: drifting mushrooms... Oddly enough I just witnessed this today!
My water is good as well and most of the shrooms have stayed on their rock, but a couple have let go and moved. 1 went to another rock and 1 went to the sand. They are doing great! I thought they would die as well, but it just seems they like to spread. |

| Re: drifting mushrooms... My Mushrooms, have repoduced a few new mushrooms. There wasn't much room on the frag rock, so a couple of the bigger one's have just recently moved into the sand, for more room I am assuming. 1 did make it to another rock. They have been doing great before a few moved....good enough to produce some new one's....and since a few moved a couple weeks ago, they are still doing well. The couple have been in the sand for a couple weeks, and they look as good as they ever have. |
