Using skimmer and UV sterilizer

I'm new to corals and have two basic questions. I'm feeding my corals every other day some live food. It is a plankton source. Will my UV sterilizer kill the food and will the skimmer skim it out.

I don't think I need the sterilizer at all. I bough it out of impulse to remedy an algae problem. The sterilizer did not solve the problem. So, it could be remove.

the skimmer is very important and will not do enough harm to worry about it. The UV sterilizer is not needed in a reef and will kill any plankton that enters it. i have heard of using one for a couple hours after a water change, but i never have personally. I got one on an impulse as well and it is now rigged up on my pond instead. live rock should choke out any algae as long as you have enough and don't run the lights too long.

I agree with clinto.. Your reef will not benefit much from the U.V... (IMO) I'd remove it..---->CBR
