i purchased this on a piece of LR and not sure what it is, it is starting to grow brown like hairs and looks fuzzy, is it a coral, and if so what kind??

I had some of that on one of my rocks too. It looks orangie pink? lol

GM333 told me what it was but I forget now. Maybe he will chime in and give you the name.

Its a type of sponge, its hard to tell which one from the pic. Look through the sponge ID's here http://wetwebmedia.com/spongeidfaq2.htm
If you want to keep it you need to turn the rock upside down as it is not photosynthetic and will most likely die if left in the open.

sponge, it never started to grow until i put the pc lights on the tank???

also, are sponges soft or hard, cause this is hard as a rock... i always though sponges were soft.....

My lfs has them ALL over their rocks. I would say its a sponge aswell...

i have tha same thing in my tank i doubt its a sponge its way too hard to be a sponge.
