Hey everyone. I am looking for a picture of a favites brain coral, more specifically one with its tenticles out. I am trying to figure out when to feed my new one and everythign I read says to feed some brine shrimp or phytoplankton, but only when its tenticles are stretched out, which I have no idea what to look for and there are not any pictures on the web to look at either, at least I havent found them anyways.

I am also looking for the same type of picture but of a short tenticle plate coral as well.

Thanks sniper! I got some good info from those sites. I am starting to wonder if my brain coral is going to make it or not. It still has its color in the lower areas (neon green) but the raised portions seem to be bleaching out. I have made some adjustments to get it a slight bit less light and some more water flow. I do not know when I should be feeding it but I may be a little impatient here because it has only been in my tank for three days or less now. The other corals I have are doing good though.

all living things are different, so they could just be sighns of stress. when i bought my betta he refused to eat for 1 week. i tried all different types of food. then all of a sudden he started eating the reg food and has been fine since. i would give it 1-2 days but keep an eye on it. im not familier with saltwater but i did learn alot from my lfs on saltwater. i would try www.liveaquaria.com they usually give you the type of light it needs and the type of watre flow. well ill keep looking and post if i find anything new.

From what I have observed on my favia brain each round "cell" have a tentacle in the center portion. However, I have only seen them comeout at night time. Favia spp. mainly uses its zooxanthellate so right amount of lighting is required. However, they will also feed on meaty foods such as mysids and diced fish (feed them at night also). When I defrost my shrimp for my fish, I dump the baby shrimp and its liquid into the tank daily to augment various corals that like this stuff.

Mine only extends it's tenticles about once a week maybe, and it is always at night when the lights are all out.
They look to me like tiny threads about an inch to 2 inches at times.
I have only seen them a few times since I got it (8 months) and have never spot fed it, It is doing great all by itself.
