minor tizzy

My granddaughter brought me a fish for the sw tank, said it would help with the ammonia, I think she said it was a lemon damsel. Poor little guy, he looks cold, nothing in the tank but him. hes digging in a corner of the tank, looking for a warm spot or hiding place?

Can I put some live rock rubble in the tank for him?

29 gal sw tank/7/25 evening

7/26 readings ph 8.2
Specific gravity 1.016

7/27 readings ph 8.2
Specific gravity 1.022
Ammonia on cheap strip 0

another question

I want my tank to look like indymanns, just a few rocks in the center on white sand, of coarse I only have a 29 gal tank. Im thinking about getting the rock from fijisandman, and I have no idea how many #s I would need. He has 60 in a 120 gal. 1/2 would be 30/60, 1/2 again 15/30 gal. right?

Re: minor tizzy

Hey Orb. Sounds like things are moving fast. AHill has a pretty good step by step instruction post on setting up a saltwater tank. IMHO I don't believe one small fish is going to help much with adding ammonia. Most addicts prefer to not cycle with fish due to the apparent cruel nature. Again, JMO but if the fish survives it would surprise me. Typically it takes several weeks before a tank has cycled and then you can add fish. Not trying to be negative. The nice thing about having a tank with no inhabitants is that you can cycle and cure the live rock at one time. I would recommend getting a sufficient amount of live rock, put it in the tank, add a source of pure ammonia and WAIT. Let the cycle and the live rock do their thing. Good luck, we're here to help.

Re: minor tizzy

I would have added all of my live rock before adding any other life. Once you add the rock your real cycle will start most likely killing your fish. You'll have to cure it separately now.
