Question Decorations

im still setting up my 125L. Im stopped at lighting but getting closer. My question is.....I pulled some old coral decorations out of the attic. They've been in boxes for 10+ years. Glad I never threw them out, they were expensive. These still look green from the old tank. I plan on bleeching them, maybe. They will come clean the next time they're in water. i have two pieces of what I think was live rock that died off now its just some solid looking rock(also green in color) Is there any benefit to leaving this old rock in the new tank? id like to keep the deco corals but if the rock is useless(in keeping up PH) then i want to throw out. Im going to put new live rock in the tank on top of the corals. but the old rock looks crappy.

Re: Decorations

If you're doing it right everything's going to turn purple anyway. I've got purple powerheads, purple heaters, purple background, purple rock etc.

That's an old pic in my signature, the whole back of my tank is purple.

Re: Decorations

You can use your old rocks as base rock. So you don't have to spend so much on live to get the height you want. Eventually it will become live again but I do suggest bleaching it with your decorative coral. Just be sure to decorinate, rinse and repeat. If it smells like bleach, keep repeating.

Chad is right. You can't wait till your rocks turn purple then all of the sudden everything is purple.

Re: Decorations

If you are doing a fishless cycle go ahead and put the rock in there, you don't need to do anything to it. You can put it any way you want it. It is best to have the least amount as possible in contact with the sand because that will be where detritus builds up.
