65gal tank journal

hey everyone, well i decided to start a tank journal. The tank i found is a 65 gal its 36x18x24 enough room for what i want to do. the will be a reef not sure if i will do a predominately sps, or perhaps a mixed reef, or just a lps and softy tank. anyways the sump/fuge is made out of a 27 gal, the skimmer is a twin beckett (i know overkill) and a mak 5 pump will run the skimmer and returns well heres some pics

the tank will be getting a fresh coat or black paint and a new canopy. thats all for now, but i'll keep you posted

Re: 65gal tank journal

Did you drill the tank for the return or was it already drilled for one?
Man you used up every inch of space you had. Looks good cant wait to see the test run.

Re: 65gal tank journal

That is a nice set up there and like gary said no kidding on the over kill part :0 that is a huge skimmer for such a small tank. If you have the lighting for it I think you should go sps. In my opinion nothing looks better than a reef full of different color sps's , The tank appears to be pretty tall though you would have to have a mh or a strong vho to penetrate that much water.

Re: 65gal tank journal

yeah i was also leaning to sps as i do have a calcium reactor. for the lights i'll be going with 2-250w mh and i might also put some t-5 ho for some actinics not sure tho as i just use a halide on my 33 gal reef

Re: 65gal tank journal

well i did a test run and everything seems good with exception of the skimmer its not bubbling enough i'am not sure if its because its just tap water or if it has to break-in yet
