ph low

i think that my tank finshed cycleing ammonia and nitrite dropped to 0, nitrates jumped to 20. but my PH has always been 7.8 i tryed adding Kent Marine Superbuffer but had no change. i tested the tap water and it was 7.2 what else will help bring PH up.

Re: ph low

You may need to check you carbonate hardness. CH is important to the balance of ph. Make sure you are keeping up with your water changes. I bet your dkh which d stands for degrees is around 4-6. Standard is 8-12. There are multiple ways CH is measured I use the dkh. Fresh mixed saltwater is 8-9 dkh. This is another reason water changes are important.

Re: ph low

I agree with Las, check your alkalinity(dkh). If it is too low, your pH won't budge....

Re: ph low

Use kalkwasser to top off, also you can use "baked" baking soda which will raise pH and kH Also check you Ca and Mg levels as well

I would find it very hard to believe unless you are using some awful salt that the kH is too low. Do you use RO water or tap?

Re: ph low

When I was using IO I had all sorts of low dkh and ca problems. Since my switch to Coralife, no problems.

Also Huff, if your house or apt. is closed up most of the time, this will cause low ph. You can try and get some fresh air into the room where the tank is.
