Skimmer in action

Ive had a venturi skimmer since day one and just recently I noticed it working properly. As a noob it has been difficult to know what the skimmer is supposed to do exactly (searched google and youtube). So once I saw other peoples skimmers in action I started making a few adjustments to mine.

Finally I think this things working properly. The past two days the cup has been filling up with this crud.

Thought this thread could help others new to SW see what the skimming process should look like

Nice mike, thanks for sharing and for the concern. Now, if I may, you want the foam to be as "dry" as possible. If you are emptying the cup every 2 days it may be on the "wet" side, which is o.k. but you will draw out even more if it is slowed just a tad more to produce a drier foam. At this stage you are probably just happy to have it pulling at all! I understand, but keep this in mind after you let it run the way it is right now.http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...t/55gal030.jpg

Thanks for sharing the picture unclejed. I will definitely keep it in mind and will be fine tuning it to produce the dry foam as you described.

Thanks again

Also mike, Protein skimmers tend to work a little better when they are "broken in" give it a little time. This is what my "skimmate" looks like;
