chiller problems

Hi All

my red sea max has a O.S.I chiller (280 version, which is rated for 72-100 gal) recently the fan has been making this HORRIBLE ticking sound every time the chiller turns on... i've only had it for 6 months, i've emailed the company.. but was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it.. or had experience dealing with these types of problems?
Thanks!
Sarah

Re: chiller problems

I do not have any direct experience aquarium chillers, but most fan cooled equipment are magnetic drives. These fans can work for years or weeks. I just changed out a cooling fan on a specialty piece of equipment that was three weeks old. Put in a new fan and the noise was gone.

Depending on your mechanical skills, you may be able to replace it yourself. If under warranty, the factory may be able to provide you a new fan rather than sending the entire unit back.

Hope this helps a little.

Re: chiller problems

I know this thread is older, but I thought I would give update.. OSI http://www.oceanstarinternational.com/index.htm
the manufacturer of my chiller, I contacted them directly VS via the LFS. They were GREAT to deal with very easy.. they provided me with a new fan assembly, at NO cost, except for $20 USD for shipping (which i thought was not bad for the fact the chiller cost me $650++ CAD at my LFS)
I would definitly recommend these guys for standing behind their products!
