OK so heres a pic of my tank (small pic I know), but its 80 gallons. the large white ball shaped coral had been sitting in my grandmas garage for over 25 years, and I decided so throw it in as a decoration.


anyway there is starting to develop some strange red and green colors on this old coral. they probly only cover 5% of the total piece, but none the less I am worried about them. they are very vivid colors, like Christmas ornament colors. can somebody tell me what it is? also have had a small layer of green on a small portion of my sand bed. any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like some sort of algae or cyano to me. If it flakes off very easily and looks slimy it is cyano.It will occur no matter what you do.

it is not slimey and it does not flake off easily. I guess its algea

Did they start as small dots and grow larger, if so that's how coralline algae grows.
