Skimmer problem and red slime

I treated my tank for red slime using Red Slime Remover. Per the instructions, I did not use my skimmer for two days. I then performed the required water change. When I fired up my skimmer, it was introducing micro bubbles into the sump and then to the main tank. I'm using the new Coralife 65 skimmer.

It worked perfect before the Red Slime Remover. After, the skimmer was producing foam even when turned all the way down. I observed bubbles in the lower 2" of the chamber whereas before it was clear. I know how the bubbles are getting to the sump but not sure what is causing it.

Has anyone else seen this post Red Slime removal?

The CSS is notorious for producing micro bubbles. I'm running the same skimmer in HOB mode. The skimmer may just be "choking" on the Red Slime Remover that's still in your water. If the bubbles aren't more than a visual problem, let it run for several hours and see if they begin to clear up. I bet they will.

I've used it and it does cause microbubbles in skimmers. Just let it run and it will clear up eventually.

Not sure it is the rsr. I have used it and did not experience what you described with my coralife super skimmer. I do know that my skimmer over produces wet foam when I add top off or do a water change and I need to let the flow cycle stabilize before re-adjusting the skimmer. Next time try turning the flow adjustment all the way down first then do your change and leave it like that for 1/2 hour or so and then adjust your skimmer. I use this process and don't have any problems.

Re: Skimmer problem and red slime

I took the skimmer out and put it in a bucket of saltwater and it worked just fine. I guess it is the RSR and I'll just have to let itself work out. I have not had problems with the super skimmer and micro bubbles in the past. Thanks for the help.

I'm willing to bet a water change will help clear it out a little quicker.

I did the 20% two days after treatment. I would agree that an additional water change would speed things up. None the less, I let the skimmer run for 16 hours now frothing and foaming away. Over time I was able to tune it in closer and closer to where it was. It has almost cleared out.

Thanks to all for the comments.
