| Re: help with algea......and update I've definately had bad luck with hermits, can't seem to get rid of em now though, and they are a bit less of a problem, they do eat the excess food, which is nice, although they still terrorize my star polyps every once in a while and cause my leathers to shut down for a few days when they crawl on top of them.
Even if you do add larger/more shells... they would for some reason rather kill eachother/snails for the shells, I've actually seen larger hermits killing smaller ones for shells?? Very weird creatures, in my future tanks I'll definately leave out hermits and keep with a variety of snails, and a starfish or 2, and of course shrimp are also good scavengers as well as all of the other benefiets such as aiptasia removal/cleaning.
Good luck with the algae battle though, it seems I finally have mine under control for the most part, no more cyano for me! I'm finally getting good coralline growth instead of the bad stuff, just wait it out, and make sure not to overfeed or overstock.
