I have had a 150 gallon reef tank for a couple of months now. I bought this tank complete with fish, coral, live rock, sand, etc. And the tank has been running in this form for 3 years. The first couple months after the move went great...I was testing on a regular basis, and everything was pretty stable. All of a sudden in the past two weeks, I realized I had lost about 5 fish! The problem is that there is so much live rock, that I was only able to remove one of the bodies...so I think the decomposing fish are poisening what is still left in there. I did a 20% water change the other day, and will do another tomorrow. A secondary problem at this point, is that I have to clean the acrylic about every three days due to green algae? This has been for the past few months...Do you know what that might be from?

I am sorry I donot but I was in the same situation my 150 gallon reef died about a year ago and I had to much live rock to because I lived on the ocean back then and when my fish died I couldn't find there bodies so I just wanted to post because that is creepy that we would have the same size tank and have the same problems.

Albean,

Do you have any scavengers in your tank that might eat the decomposing bodies?? Algae blooms are due to higher phosphates than normal I think.(someone correct me if I am wrong) Do you have a test kit for that? If not I would pick one up to see if that is the problem. I clean my glass on my 55g every 2 days to keep it clean! Brad

No you are not wrong the nitrates are possibly high to.

What are the current Params of the tank, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, PH and alk. We will go from there as to what needs to be done to correct the problem.
